According to Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the Igbos in Lagos expressed their desire to vote for the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, during the last general elections. Iwuanyanwu stated that he gave them his approval to do so, as they had no issues with the governor and Ohanaeze did not interfere with their voting choices.

According to Punch paper, he also mentioned a similar situation during the governorship election in Osun State, where many Igbos expressed their intention to vote for Ademola Adeleke, whom Iwuanyanwu referred to as “our son.”

In an interview with The Punch, Iwuanyanwu revealed that he is taking steps to address the ethnic tensions that arose in Lagos during the election period. He stated that he plans to hold a meeting with the Lagos State Governor in the coming weeks to discuss and resolve these issues.

He assured their people not to worry, as Ohanaeze believes that their relationship in Lagos is strengthened.

In his words, “The Igbos residing in Lagos State expressed their desire to vote for the state’s governor during the elections. I approved of their decision as we had no problems with the governor and never influenced their voting choices.”
