Joke Silva, a veteran Nollywood actress, has described the marital hardships she and her husband, Olu Jacobs, have had as he battles dementia.
In an interview with media personality and actress Nancy Isime, Silva spoke candidly about the illness’s influence on their marriage.
Silva hailed her husband as a wonderful husband and father who always did his job.
She focused on their early years together, emphasizing that Jacobs was not just her best friend but her entire life before they married, but their relationship has suffered significant changes as a result of his illness.
She stated;
“It hasn’t been easy… There came a point when I realized that everything that was happening was true, and that the person I married was gone 80 percent of the time.
“But the truth is, when he was there, he was not only an excellent father to his children and an incredible husband, but he was also practically my best friend.”
The husband I knew is no longer here for me, but this man is someone I still love.”
Silva acknowledged the difficulties they encountered throughout the early years of their marriage. They have been married for 37 years and have known each other for 42 years, including five years of courting before to marriage.
In the end, she accepted their arrangement and now sees herself as caring for her father rather than in a traditional husband-wife relationship.
