Lemmy Ughegbe, a journalist, has faulted the recent statement released by the presidency shortly after the presentation of the final report by the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM). While speaking in an interview with AIT, he said that President Bola Tinubu described the 2023 presidential election as perfect and the best-organized election, adding that the danger of this statement is that the 2027 election will be worse. Ughegbe noted that Tinubu refused to admit flaws in the election and it isn’t a good sign for 2027.

He said, “The danger in Tinubu saying the election was perfect is that the 2027 election will be worse. No human being is perfect but you seem to say that yours is perfect without admitting the flaws and gaps. I’m worried because Bola Tinubu didn’t conduct the election; he was a candidate so why should he even bother about jumping into this when he can leave INEC and Buhari to deal with this issue?

It is not his business because he didn’t conduct the elections so he should just concentrate on the issues of government. I don’t know why Dele Alake purported that the election was perfect when it was never perfect.”
