A Nigerian Lawyer, Liborous Oshoma has alleged that Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s optimal lifeline lies in the resolution by the President. He highlighted that it is in the best interest of the governor to adhere to this resolution, considering the intricate political landscape. He argued that the possibility exists that the Court could rule in favor of the Speaker of the 27 members, asserting that their seats were not properly declared vacant. In such a scenario, he stated that the Speaker gains the authority to determine an alternative meeting place for the 27 lawmakers, beyond the statutory location for house business. He said in an interview with TVC, ”Obviously the best lifeline that Governor Fubara could get is that resolution by the President. And it was in his best interest to go on with that resolution. Because knowing the kind of political terrain that we are in. The Court can come up tomorrow and say that the Speaker of the 27 members remains the Speaker and that the 27 members seats were not properly declared vacant. And once that happens, we all know that it is the speaker that has the power to determine where they meet in the absence of the statutory place, they converged for the business of the house. The 27 lawmakers could have met anywhere, put a mace, and decide to impeach Fubara. And then while lawyers would be debating whether it is right or wrong. They will still ask the governor to go to Court.”
