Tension as Soldiers take over Imo community

The relative peace enjoyed in the oil rich Izombe community in Oguta local government area of Imo State for sometime now, was early Monday morning, truncated with the arrival of soldiers who came and occupied the area.

Blueprint correspondent gathered that the soldiers arrived the community in truck loads as early as 4am and started shooting sporadically, thus making villagers to run helter skelter into the bush and to neighbouring villages……CONTINUE READING

Although, the cause of the sudden occupation of the community by soldiers was not known as at the time of filing this report.

However, the reason could be traced to the incessant crises involving the natives and security agencies over oil bunkering and the menace of militants believed to be bandits.

For nearly two years now, there have been killings of people suspected to be militants by security forces, especially the Ebubeagu Security Outfit and security agents by the militants, resulting in breakdown of law and order.

When contacted, the spokesman at the 34 Field Artillery Brigade, Obinze, Owerri said he was not aware of the invasion.

He however, promised to find out and report back but never did.
