According to a news that was published by the Vanguard paper online this evening, it was reported that in a stunning admission on Monday, the former Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari, revealed that the withdrawal of the oil subsidy was not motivated by the country’s economic interests but rather, as a political move to benefit the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its then-presidential candidate, leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during the February 25th, 2023 general elections.

And due to this development, a Nigerian Professor, Prof. Nwekeaku, who is from the scribe of the Igbo Elders Consultative Forum, reacted to the claim, as expressed his disappointment in the former president as regarding this comment.

While he was talking, he said that the Nigerian people trusted the former President Buhari, to make decisions that would benefit the country, but instead, his recent revelation showed that, the trust was misplaced.

He said, “We thought Buhari was making decision for us, but he made it for his party. How can we have faith in a government that sacrifices our well-being for political gain ? In governance, national interest overrides every other interest. You do not solve a problem by postponing it.”

Further talking, he said, “Muhammadu Buhari’s confession, represents a high level of irresponsibility, lack of commitment, and insensitivity to the feelings of the people. And it also confirmed what many of us suspected all along, that corruption was given a free pass under Muhammadu Buhari’s watch.”
