Daniel Bwala, a spokesman for Atiku Abubakar, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has faulted the implementation process of recent economic policies by President Bola Tinubu. While speaking on the effects of fuel subsidy removal in an interview with Seun Okinbaloye on Mic On Podcast, he said that Nigerians should be ready for a few months of suffering, adding that the implementation process of the policy was flawed and he doesn’t believe that palliatives will significantly reduce the effects.

He said, “We all agreed that fuel subsidy had to be removed but the problem around this hardship is the premature removal or you can say a removal without proper plans. The whole idea was that the government will implement certain policies that will help people in this transition because once you remove subsidy, there is going to be an increase in food and transportation and virtually every fabric of our lives will be impacted.

Let me be honest, Nigerians are suffering. I believe that the implementation process was flawed but I believe that they are making efforts to correct that. So Nigerians should be ready for a few months of suffering. If we are talking about palliatives for people who have jobs, what about those who don’t have jobs? The fact remains more Nigerians are suffering and it is likely to continue for a few more months.”
