Speaker Tajudeen Abbas has condemned an interview conducted by one of his subordinates, asserting that he didn’t convey his interview from an official perspective. The Speaker disavows his aide because his interview disparaged Buhari.
In a press release issued by his Media and Publicity Special Adviser, Musa Kirshi, the Speaker affirmed that the opinions conveyed in the interview by the subordinate continue to reflect his personal opinions.
During an interview with a prominent national newspaper, Godfrey Gaiya, an adviser to Abbas, criticized former President Muhammadu Buhari, asserting that he not only failed to combat corruption but encouraged it.
When queried about what he would say to the former President if they were to meet, Gaiya candidly stated, “I would unequivocally tell him his failure. I would say, ‘Buhari, you have faltered. You deceived Nigerians with your fake righteousness, while you concealed inside you a realm of abhorrent corruption.'”
“We have witnessed and will continue to witness, the proliferation of individuals amassing immense wealth during Buhari’s tenure. If one does not combat corruption or turns their eyes away from it when they should confront it, it means they’re perpetuating evil; it signifies failure.
Buhari, therefore, failed Nigeria on multiple fronts. Under his eight-year administration, we have become the most heavily indebted nation in Africa.”
Nonetheless, the Speaker’s official statement highlighted, “The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas (PhD), has been made aware that one of his associates provided an interview to a widely circulated national newspaper, during which inappropriate remarks were made.
“It is important to clarify that the aforementioned associate, Hon. Godfrey Gaiya, did not receive authorization from the Speaker to engage in such an interview. Consequently, the expressed comments solely represent the views of Godfrey Gaiya and not those of Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.”
To eliminate any uncertainty, it is important to note that Speaker Tajudeen has a Media and Publicity Special Adviser who fulfills the role of his spokesperson.
Consequently, all formal declarations from the Speaker are disseminated through his designated representative.
It is crucial to highlight that the Speaker holds immense regard for, and reciprocates the same from, former President Buhari and the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai.
Consequently, the Speaker remains committed to maintaining a positive relationship with them and refrains from engaging in any actions or making statements that could undermine this bond.
