Segun Sowunmi, the PDP candidate running for the Governorship position in Ogun State, in the 2023 election, claimed that, various ethnic groups are closely observing the actions, taken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. During a meeting with Yoruba Media Practitioners, Sowunmi pointed out that, Tinubu has appointed Yoruba individuals, to important positions in the government. Sowunmi emphasized the importance for Tinubu to learn from the past, and ensure inclusivity in his administration, avoiding the mistakes of his predecessor, by bringing people from different backgrounds together in his government.

He stated that, The Hausas, Igbos, and other ethnic groups are observing, and expressing curiosity, about how the Yoruba people are currently in positions of influence. They are noting that, a Yoruba man is serving as the Chief of Army Staff, another as the Inspector General of Police, yet another as the Customs Comptroller General, and even the head of the Central Bank of Nigeria, is also a Yoruba man.
