Reno Omokri Defends Tinubu’s Appointments, Labels Them Nigeria’s Most Balanced

In a statement released on Sunday, Omokri responded to columnist Farooq Kperogi’s accusations of tribalism, stating that evaluating a single committee’s composition does not provide a complete picture. He emphasized the importance of assessing appointments holistically, considering their alignment with the National Order of Precedence.

Omokri highlighted that President Tinubu has ensured representation across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches. He cited appointments such as Senator George Akume from the North Central as Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack from the South-South as Head of the Civil Service. These, he noted, contrast with previous administrations’ tendencies to favor specific regions.

In the security sector, Omokri pointed to the appointments of Nuhu Ribadu from the Northeast as National Security Adviser and Olufemi Olatubosun from the Southwest as Chief of Army Staff. He explained that the prominence of the Northwest and Southwest in appointments correlates with their population sizes, with the Northwest comprising 27% and the Southwest 20% of Nigeria’s population. Additionally, he noted the Southwest’s high education levels contribute to their visibility in government roles.

Omokri concluded by describing President Tinubu as “one of Nigeria’s most accommodating leaders,” urging critics to consider the broader context of his appointments.
