According to PUNCH, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) said on Sunday that it would withdraw the result of a certain Ejikeme Mmesoma for manipulating her score and declaring herself the highest scorer in the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination.

According to the board’s statement, Ejikeme used her manipulated score to secure a N3 million scholarship from Innoson Motors and was set to be honoured by the Anambra State government before she was caught.

The statement reads, “The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has been alerted to certain publications in both print and online media congratulating particular candidates on their outstanding performance in the 2023 UTME.

“The Board is compelled to set the record straight and wishes to state unequivocally that many of the results displayed by many of these candidates are fake. In several cases, some of these candidates had significantly lower scores than they claimed and had used some amusing software applications to modify their results in order to trick unwary members of the public.

“Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, who claimed to have scored 362 in the 2023 UTME and was handed a N3 million scholarship by Chief (Dr.) Innocent Chukwuma, is the most pathetic of them all.

“When one of the Anambra State Government’s top officials called JAMB to validate her claim, the Board revealed that Miss Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma had really scored 249, not the 362 she claimed. She had tampered with her UTME results in order to deceive the public and falsely win scholarships and other awards.”

As expected, this development elicited reactions on Twitter as it was shared by PUNCH on their official handle.

A Twitter user identified as Kabongo said, “So JAMB doesn’t publish results of the top scoring students? I was very surprised to read this. How do universities get JAMB scores used for admitting students? Do the students send the results to the schools?”

Omotayo Akorede Psalmuel said, “Who teaches these kids to manipulate results? I’m fairly sure they didn’t come up with this scheme by themselves. JAMB should investigate the source.”
