Rapper Tory Lanez faces 22 years
Popular rapper Daystar Peterson aka Tory Lanez, is set to go to jail for about 22 years after a jury found him guilty of shooting colleague Megan Thee Stallion in the foot.
The 30 year old rapper was found guilty of the 3 count charge against him including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence.
According to reports, his father and stepmother screamed that the verdict was injustice after the jury decided.
Megan whose given name is Megan Pete had initially said she’d cut her foot on glass to cover up for Lanez and avoid backlash for ‘snitching’.
She’d later accused Lanez of shooting her in the feet after they left a Hollywood Hills party at Kylie Jenner’s home in 2020.
The Canadian rapper pleaded not guilty in November 2020 but now faces up to 22 years in prison along with subsequent deportation.
The jury of seven women and five men deliberated for roughly one and a half days before reaching a verdict on Friday.
According to prosecutors, Lanez and Megan got into an argument after she criticized his “musical skills” after leaving the pool party.
Megan asked to be let out of the SUV they were riding in. After she got out, Lanez shot her feet three times, injuring her, prosecutors said.
During her testimony on Dec. 13, Megan said Tory has said: “Dance, bitch!” before opening fire.
Tory Lanez was remanded on the spot, led out in handcuffs by sheriff’s deputies. There were six total in the courtroom, two at door and four behind Lanez, and there was reportedly a scene when they tried to get Lanez’s father and stepmother under control.
