Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has offered an explanation as to why President Bola Tinubu cannot investigate his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari. According to Primate Ayodele, conducting an investigation into Buhari’s administration would have negative consequences for Tinubu’s government, potentially leading to its downfall. He made these remarks during a speech titled “Warning to the Nations” in Lagos.
The statement comes in the wake of reports suggesting that Buhari had asked Tinubu not to probe his former appointees. However, Garba Shehu, a former spokesperson for Buhari, refuted these reports, stating that Buhari never made such an appeal.
Primate Ayodele further advised Tinubu, as he assumes power, to safeguard press freedom and the right to free speech. Despite his belief that Tinubu’s government will perform better than Buhari’s, he cautioned against investigating the previous administration due to undisclosed agreements between Buhari and Tinubu.
Primate Elijah Ayodele expressed his support for Tinubu’s government, stating that he holds a positive view of it. However, he also mentioned that in certain situations, expressing opinions can lead to being targeted or pursued. He emphasized the importance of allowing freedom of speech and advised Tinubu’s government to uphold freedom of the press and freedom of expression.
