The Presidential Election Petition Court has reconvened in the capital city to allow the respondents – the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC), and its presidential candidate – to present their defense against the petitions filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party. These parties are contesting the victory of President Bola Tinubu in the election.
INEC took the lead by presenting three witnesses in the Labour Party’s petition. However, the first defense witness scheduled for today’s session was unable to attend due to personal reasons, as informed by INEC’s Counsel, Abubakar Mahmoud. He requested an adjournment of the case until July 4th, and this was not opposed by the counsels representing the Labour Party (Levi Uzoukwu), APC (Lateef Fagbemi), and Tinubu (Wole Olanikpekun).
Consequently, the court adjourned and will reconvene at 2pm to allow the defense to present their case in the PDP petition.
