Portable Urges EFCC to Release VeryDarkMan Amid Arrest Controversy

Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has publicly called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release social media critic VeryDarkMan, following his recent arrest.

VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, was reportedly arrested on May 1, 2025, after visiting a GTBank branch in Abuja with his mother to address issues concerning unauthorized deductions from her account. In a video shared on his Instagram page, Portable expressed his concern over the arrest, stating:

“Please make una help us free VeryDarkMan, he is my friend. If we’re fighting, it doesn’t mean it’s till death. He gives people food, he helps a lot of poor people, so I love people who help people.”

Despite previous disagreements with VeryDarkMan, Portable emphasized the importance of acknowledging the critic’s humanitarian efforts. He also cautioned against the trend of arresting individuals to assert legal authority, urging for a more compassionate approach.

The singer further advised the public against withdrawing their funds from GTBank in protest, highlighting the need for constructive dialogue over punitive actions.

Portable’s plea adds to the growing list of Nigerian celebrities and citizens advocating for VeryDarkMan’s release, reflecting broader concerns about freedom of expression and the treatment of activists in the country.
