At a recent meeting in Ibadan, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum firmly dismissed any involvement in merger or coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections. The governors emphasized their commitment to maintaining the PDP’s distinct identity while remaining open to welcoming individuals and groups that align with the party’s vision for good governance.
The forum also addressed internal party matters, including the appointment of an acting National Secretary from the South East zone, following a recent Supreme Court judgment. Additionally, the governors expressed solidarity with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid federal actions in the state and called for a strategic overhaul to address the nation’s deteriorating security situation.
In preparation for the party’s future, the PDP Governors’ Forum announced plans to hold a Stakeholders Meeting on May 27, 2025, and the National Convention in Kano from August 28–30, 2025. Committees have been formed to oversee zoning and convention arrangements, aiming to strengthen the party’s position ahead of the upcoming elections.
