Sowore claimed that in 1992, Oshiomhole, alongside then-NLC President Pascal Bafial, supported Babangida’s administration in implementing the first fuel price hike in Nigeria. He also alleged that during Obasanjo’s tenure, Oshiomhole would secretly meet with the president to discuss fuel price increases, agreeing to stage minimal protests to appease the public while allowing the hikes to proceed.
These assertions challenge Oshiomhole’s public image as a labor leader who opposed fuel subsidy removals. Notably, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has also pointed out that Oshiomhole opposed fuel subsidy removal during Obasanjo’s presidency.
