According to Professor Okey Ikechukwu, a Human Capital Development Expert, he claims that President Bola Tinubu’s order to remove fuel subsidy, is reminiscent of a similar decision, made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on his first day in office.

In an interview with Arise TV news, the professor stated that the President might not have been able to implement the subsidy removal if he had waited until the following week. He believes that, this decision sends a strong message about the new administration’s stance.

He stated that, “The President’s decision to remove fuel subsidy, was a positive one; the subsidy needed to be eliminated. However, this action has resulted in some consequences that need to be addressed. I’m concerned that, if the President had delayed the decision beyond that specific day, removing the fuel subsidy, might not have been achievable.

He further said that, Tinubu’s initial order reminded me of what Obasanjo did, when he assumed office. Obasanjo retired all the senior military officers with political exposure. If Tinubu had waited to take action the following week, it might have been impossible to carry out such a move.
