Professor Okey Ikechukwu, an expert in human capital development, has claimed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should eliminate the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs. He contended that, the establishment of this ministry, has had no impact on the lives of Nigerians, particularly those in the North, where a significant number of impoverished individuals reside. He emphasized that, it is futile to create agencies, solely responsible for overseeing the welfare of the poor.

He stated during the interview that, “Transferring funds to an undefined entity in Abuja, the sheer cost of administration is displeasing to acknowledge. There is no necessity for its existence as a ministry. Establishing a ministry solely for the purpose of distributing money, indicates a lack of progress and development. Even with a Northern minister in charge of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), poverty still persists in that region. Increasing the number of agencies that handle impoverished individuals, does not signify any advancement.”

He further said that, “In my opinion, it is necessary to eliminate the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and completely do away with NEMA. Instead of their current approach to providing palliatives, they should utilize the state institutions.”
