In a post on Punch paper, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has said that late General Odumegu Ojukwu never wanted war in 1967.

According to him, the late general went for the Aburi accord in Ghana because he did not have any mandate for separation and he did not ask for secession. 

The president of the Igbo group said Ojukwu simply ask for the restructuring Nigeria to make it possible for the people of the South-East to live in the country, adding that the late general was very conscious of the fact that Igbos have made lots of investment in the country and he simply ask for restructuring in Aburi to make it possible for peace to reign.

He asked what were the plans in place to address the issue of ethnic profiling of Ndigbo in some parts of the country, adding that the late General said if they wanted them back, then the country have to be restructure, but they said no. 

He said, “We did not have any more ideas so there was war. It was completely forced on us because we didn’t actually want it. The Igbo have no reason whatsoever to pull out of Nigeria because we have invested so much in the country.
