In a swift and courageous act, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has intercepted an armed man during a church service in Plateau State, preventing what could have potentially turned into a tragic attack.

Eyewitnesses claim the suspect was acting suspiciously near the church entrance. Officers of the NSCDC on routine patrol reportedly approached him for questioning and found a locally fabricated pistol during a search.

“We thank God for the vigilance of the officers on ground. No one was harmed, and the suspect is now in custody,” said a church member who was present at the scene.

A spokesperson for the NSCDC Plateau Command confirmed the arrest and added that the suspect is currently being interrogated to determine his motives and any possible accomplices.

“Our men acted swiftly to neutralize a potential threat. The suspect will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for prosecution,” the spokesperson said.

The incident has sparked both fear and gratitude among residents. Many are praising the NSCDC’s alertness, while others are calling for increased security presence around places of worship, especially in regions with a history of unrest.

“It’s terrifying to think what could have happened if he got inside. We need better security, always,” said another eyewitness.

This incident comes amid growing concerns over attacks on religious institutions in Nigeria. While the motive remains unclear, authorities are not ruling out any possibility, including terrorism, cult activity, or personal vendetta.

The NSCDC has urged the public, especially religious leaders and worshippers, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior immediately.
