The Nigerian Embassy in the Republic of Niger has refutes claims that its building was destroyed by angry protesters of the West African country.

In the statement the High Commissioner described the viral videos of protesters setting a building ablaze as fake.

He noted that although some protesters attempted to break into the “Chancery Building” in Niamey, the situation has been put under control and the Nigerien security are fully guarding the embassy.

Auwalu further asked the public to disregard the fake videos.

He said: “It has been brought to our notice that fake videos showing the touching of the Chancery Building in Niamey by protesters is circulating on various social media platforms.

“The Embassy wishes to inform the general public that even though protesters tried to gain access to the Embassy on 30th July 2023, the Nigerian military and police authorities promptly curtailed the situation.”
