Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South, has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s recent declaration of a national emergency on food security. Ndume believes this initiative will significantly reduce food prices and enhance agricultural productivity across Nigeria. He emphasized that bolstering food production is crucial for alleviating economic hardships faced by citizens.
In addition to his commendation, Ndume called for the establishment of a Department of Government Efficiency under the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. This department would ensure strict adherence to budget implementations and promote effective governance.
Highlighting the importance of economic stability, Ndume urged President Tinubu to declare similar emergencies in the areas of the economy and national security. He stressed the need to address the rising inflation and stabilize the naira, suggesting that Nigeria leverage its membership in BRICS to trade using alternative currencies like the Chinese yuan, thereby reducing dependency on the US dollar.
Ndume also encouraged other state governors to emulate Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, who has proactively addressed food security by providing farmers with tractors, irrigation equipment, and subsidized fertilizers.CONTINUE READING
