NDLEA Raises Concern Over High Cannabis Use in Oyo

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has raised serious concerns over the escalating use of cannabis and its potent variant, known as “loud,” in Oyo State. Olayinka Joe-Fadile, the state commander of the NDLEA, expressed alarm at the increasing prevalence of these substances, particularly among the youth. He emphasized that this trend poses a significant threat to public health and safety, as drug abuse is often linked to various forms of criminal activity.

In response to this growing issue, the NDLEA is intensifying its enforcement efforts, including the destruction of seized drugs and the prosecution of offenders. The agency is also calling on community leaders, parents, and educators to collaborate in raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and to support initiatives aimed at curbing the spread of illicit substances.

This development highlights the urgent need for comprehensive strategies to address drug abuse in Oyo State, combining law enforcement with community engagement and education to effectively combat this pressing issue.
