A coalition comprising of civil society groups and community-based organizations in the Niger Delta region has expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to retain the positions of the Managing Director, Executive Director of Projects, and Executive Director of Finance of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). They commended Tinubu for his decision, stating that those criticizing it are unaware of the enabling act that establishes the NDDC. They emphasized that Tinubu’s choice aligns with the provisions of the enabling act.
In a statement endorsed by Barr Afoegba Peter Goodyear on behalf of various organizations including the Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality (MOSIEND), Association for Non-Violence in the Niger Delta, Niger Delta Coalition for Peace and Progress, Niger Delta Non-Violence Youth Leaders Association, and Rivers State Youth Leaders Assembly, the coalition expressed their support for Tinubu’s decision.
The statement did not provide specific details about the reasons behind their endorsement, but it emphasized that those who oppose Tinubu’s decision lack knowledge of the legal framework that governs the NDDC. They asserted that Tinubu’s action was in compliance with the enabling act and expressed confidence in his leadership regarding the NDDC positions.
