N300m Bulletproof Jeep: Ondo Assembly Begins Impeachment Process Of Deputy Governor
Amid tight security, lawmakers at the Ondo State House of Assembly on Wednesday began the impeachment of the state Deputy Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for allegedly approving N300 million for himself for the purchase of bulletproof SUV from the palliative fund.
The lawmakers at the hallowed chamber of the House during the sitting moderated by the Speaker, Mr. Olamide Oladiji, read a petition sent to the House by the executive, alleging the deputy governor of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
Seventeen out of the 26 members of the Assembly attended the emergency plenary session.

Thereafter, the Majority Leader of the Assembly, Mr. Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi, moved the motion for commencement of processes on the petition.
He quoted Section 188 of the Nigerian constitution on the need to write a letter to the deputy governor to inform him of the allegations.
The motion was seconded by a Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) lawmaker representing Akoko South-West II, Hon. Tope Agbulu.
Nine of the 17 members, who were present at the plenary, signed the move to serve the deputy governor.
The House, therefore, instructed the Clerk of the House to write to the deputy governor informing him of the allegations for reply.
It would be recalled that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu sacked all media aides attached to the office of the deputy governor a fortnight ago on grounds that the media team was rejigged.
But there have been cold war between some members of the state executive council and the deputy governor over allegation bordering on disloyalty of the deputy governor to the governor when he was on medical leave.
He was alleged of holding clandestine meetings with some members of the cabinet and stealthily formed his own cabinet.
With the commencement of the impeachment of the deputy governor, there’s every tendency that he would not survive the impeachment move.

As the impeachment process of Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Deputy Governor of Ondo, began on Wednesday, Daily Independent learnt that Aiyedatiwa is being accused of allegedly approving for himself N300 million for purchase of bulletproof SUV.
According to sources, Aiyedatiwa allegedly sourced the money from the N2 billion palliative fund recently disbursed to the 36 states by the Federal Government.
According to sources within the Assembly, 23 lawmakers have already signed the impeachment notice against Aiyedatiwa.
According to one of the sources, trouble started when Aiyedatiwa reportedly approved the sum of N300 million for the purchase of a bulletproof SUV for his personal use. This approval was allegedly given while the state governor was recuperating in Germany.
Further complicating matters, it was learnt that Aiyedatiwa ordered the N300 million to be sourced from the palliative fund. This fund, provided by the Federal government, was intended to support states in addressing the needs of their citizens.
The source said the impeachment proceedings underscore the Assembly’s commitment to accountability, even at the highest levels of state governance.
