Today, on Friday, the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, bestowed the Staff of Office upon ten out of the 11 High Chiefs of Ibadanland who have been elevated to the esteemed position of Oba, adorned with beaded crowns.
This historic ceremony took place at the renowned Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the capital city of the state. The elevation of these chiefs was sanctioned and supported by the esteemed Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, who serves as the prescribed and consenting authority.
The Punch had an exclusive report on Thursday, June 22, disclosing Makinde’s approval of the promotion.
Tajudeen Ajibola, Owolabi Olakulehin, Eddy Oyewole, Biodun Kola-Daisi, Lateef Adebimpe, Kola Adegbola, Hamidu Ajibade, Bayo Akande, Olubunmi Isioye, and Abiodun Azeez have been appointed as the new Obas.
However, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, the Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, who previously declined the promotion, was noticeably absent from the ceremony.
Ladoja expressed his disinterest in any crown other than that of the Olubadan of Ibadanland. He emphasized that his sole ambition was to attain the esteemed position of Olubadan, and his desire was exclusively centered around donning the crown of the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Furthermore, the recently crowned Obas have assumed the role of Chairmen within the Traditional Council of their respective Local Government Areas in Ibadanland.
