The imprisoned leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been asked for release by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, president-general of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo. In an interview with Punch paper, he made this decision in response to a recent statement made by Asari Dokubo, a leader of the Niger Delta, in which he urged Tinubu not to release Nnamdi Kanu.

Chief Iwuanyanwu proved that the Igbos had made significant investments in Nigeria and that other tribes in Nigeria had nothing to do with the coup d’etat of 1966 that led to the long-standing hostility between the Igbos and them. The president-general claims that if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu considers taking just one action—releasing Nnamdi Kanu—he will gain tremendous respect in Nigeria and Igboland.

“Tinubu is my friend and a friend of the Igbo, and he should know that there is a thing in Igboland,” Chief Iwuanyanwu remarked in proverbs. A sobbing youngster who is pointing in the direction of something is undoubtedly aware of it. He should be aware that we are not ignorant and that no one has the right to inform Igbos of what is happening in Igboland. We place a great deal of importance on Nnamdi Kanu’s release, and Tinubu would gain a great deal of respect in Nigeria and Igboland if he did. He hasn’t murdered anyone, and no one has accused him of doing so. Kanu ought to have been released in actuality because he is ill at the moment.
