There is tension in Ukwuagba Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, as a group of unidentified gunmen have set fire to a police patrol van.

Verified Gist reports that the armed assailants targeted a police checkpoint in the area, ordering on-duty officers to vacate before torching the van.

In reaction, Ikechukwu Onwe, Chairman of Ohaukwu Local Government, strongly condemned the heinous act committed by the unknown gunmen in the Ukwuagba Ngbo community. He called upon local stakeholders to unite and curb the activities of criminals in the area.

During a security council meeting held at the Ezzangbo council headquarters, Onwe pledged to exhaust all available means to apprehend the individuals responsible for the arson attack on the police van.

In the midst of these events, the state government reassured residents that they could resume their daily activities without fear. This comes after reported incidents of gunfire in certain parts of the state, allegedly caused by unidentified gunmen.

A statement released by Jude Okpor, the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, addressed the situation: “The Ebonyi State government expresses deep concern over the recent apprehension in some areas of the state due to the activities of unidentified gunmen. We assure the general public that security forces are fully in control.”

It is worth noting that a faction of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) had recently declared a one-week sit-at-home order across the South East.
