Social media influencer and activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). His lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the arrest in a Facebook post on Friday evening, alleging that VDM was detained following his public criticism of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) over unauthorized transactions on his mother’s account.…...CONTINUE READING
Adeyanju further revealed that a team of lawyers from his firm, led by Marvin Omorogbe, met with a friend of VDM who was detained alongside him. He added that VDM refused to come out of the cell, stating he wouldn’t see anyone. Adeyanju also alleged that VDM was locked inside the GTBank exit door for over five minutes to enable EFCC officers to arrest him and his friend.
The lawyer announced plans to take legal action against GTBank for the alleged inhumane treatment meted out to their client. He stated, “We will be taking legal actions against GTB for the inhumane treatment meted out to our client. We will issue a public statement soon.”
The EFCC has not yet issued an official statement regarding the arrest, and it remains unclear whether formal charges have been filed against VDM
