Fire has engulfed Sopurum Hotel, a prominent recreational establishment located in the Nkwelle community of Onitsha, Anambra State.
Verified Gist reports that the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but reports indicate that the incident started at approximately 4:30 am on Monday.
Fire service personnel from Delta and Anambra states were swiftly deployed to the scene and are currently engaged in battling the blaze.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the state police, has confirmed the fire incident. He assured the public that the situation is under control.
“The fire broke out around 4:30 am on Monday, and upon receiving the information, our officers were promptly mobilized to the scene. They have cordoned off the area to prevent any acts of vandalism,” Ikenga stated.
He further added, “Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties. The fire service personnel are on-site, effectively managing the situation and extinguishing the fire.”
This newspaper learnt that efforts to reach Martins Agbili, the Anambra State Fire Chief, for comments have been unsuccessful.
