In a statement shared on her Instagram page, Iyabo Ojo revealed that she received an invitation from the EFCC while she was in the United Kingdom. Upon her return to Nigeria, she honored the invitation and visited the EFCC office on May 5, 2025.

During the session, EFCC officials presented her with video evidence from the wedding, highlighting guests spraying both Naira and foreign currencies. Ojo explained that she was aware that defacing or mutilating the Naira is prohibited but was unaware that spraying any currency, including foreign ones like the US Dollar, is also considered illegal in Nigeria. The EFCC clarified that spraying money on individuals at events contravenes financial regulations.

“I was surprised to learn that spraying any currency, including dollars, is not allowed,” Ojo stated. “Given this experience, I strongly advise against spraying any currency in Nigeria to avoid issues with the EFCC.”

After the questioning, Iyabo Ojo was allowed to leave the same day. Her lawyer, O.I. Salami, accompanied her and may represent her in any further proceedings if necessary.

This incident serves as a reminder of the legal implications associated with traditional practices like money spraying at celebrations. The EFCC has been actively enforcing laws against currency abuse, emphasizing the importance of adhering to financial regulations during public events.
