In his tweet on Tuesday, prominent Human Rights activist and former member of the Nigerian Senate, Senator Shehu Sani, voiced his concern over the potential appointment or rewarding of former governors who have been accused of looting their states resources and neglecting the welfare of their citizens. He argued that such actions would be unconscionable and send a negative signal about Tinubu’s administration which has promised to bring “new dawn” in the country.
Highlighting the plight of the people affected by the mismanagement of state funds, Sani emphasized the need for accountability and justice. He pointed out that while the former CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele and former EFCC Chairman, Abdulrasheed Bawa have been detained for their alleged involvement in corruption, the members of the defunct cabal, former ministers, and ex-governors have not been called to account for their actions.
Senator Sani wrote, “It will be most unconscionable to think of rewarding or appointing former Governors who looted their states and left their people in poverty and debt into office. Two people in detention while the members of the defunct cabal,ex ministers and ex Governors are not called to account doesn’t send a good signal about a new dawn.”
