The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the purported move by President Bola Tinubu to appoint the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, as a minister. According to the report published by the Sun, he described it as a shame, adding the president wants to reward Wike with a ministerial portfolio despite the accusations of rigging leveled against him.

Atiku further stated that the election in Rivers State wasn’t credible, adding that Wike has a pending petition against him that has garnered almost 300,000 signatures and he shouldn’t be rewarded for the ‘disgraceful’ election in the state.

“The presidential election in Rivers State was (allegedly) rigged as evidenced by what INEC has uploaded on IREV. So far, nearly 300,000 Nigerians have signed a petition on change.org demanding visa bans against Wike. Tinubu is now on the verge of appointing Wike as a minister as a reward for that disgraceful election. What a shame.”
