Ugochukwu Alinor, chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Owerri Branch, along with four other NBA branch chairmen in the state, condemned Ugboma’s killing.

Alinor stated that the protest was held to force the state’s security agents to live up to their responsibilities of protecting lives and property in the state.

He urged the government to provide adequate security within the court premises and to fence all of the state’s courts.

Alinor urged police to apprehend the judge’s killers as well as those who beheaded Chris Ohizu, the sole administrator of Ideato North Local Government Area.

Another lawyer, Chuks Agbugba, said the jurist’s murder posed a threat to the state’s justice system.

He urged the police to abandon the “Yahoo boys” and focus on the core security issue of protesting lives and property.

Another lawyer, Tony Ephraim, who spoke to journalists outside the state Police Command headquarters, decried what he called the state’s constant killing of lawyers.

“We are here to protest the constant killing of lawyers in Imo State and attacks on court facilities,” Ephraim said.

Another time, a former bar chairman was assassinated in his office.
