During an interview with Channels Television, Femi Falana, Senior Advocate of Nigeria, stated that he is aware that very soon the oil thieves in Nigeria will be exposed. He added that the new administration must work tirelessly to ensure that those oil Thieves are brought to book.

Falana also disclosed that out of the 1.8 million barrels of crude oil meant to be produced per day, only 1.2 million are being produced, pointing out that 600,000 barrels are stolen. He stated that it is unacceptable because the government cannot say that the oil Thieves cannot be caught.

According to him, “Our OPEC quota is 1.8 million barrels of crude oil per day. We’re barely producing 1.2 million barrels, so 600,000 barrels are stolen. This is unacceptable. No responsible government can say that oil theft cannot be converted. I’m aware that very soon the oil thieves are going to be exposed. Whereas there are 36 oil terminals, only 20 of them are metered. In 2012, after the protest, the Jonathan administration set up the Nuhu Ribadu Committee to investigate the monumental fraud that led to the importation of fuel. At the end of the investigation, that panel came out with a report saying that many of our terminals are non-meters. I’m aware that of 36 terminals, only 20 are metered, so the remaining 16 have not been metered, and that is where oil is stolen, so this regime has a task.”
