The former Governor of Ekiti State and a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ayodele Fayose, has indirectly revealed how he and G-5 Governors on his party’s platform, worked to ensure that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu defeated their Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, during the February 25, 2023 Presidential election; as he insisted that he only joined forces with the G-5 to ensure that a Southern President emerged, and not to dump the main opposition party for the All Progressive Congress (APC).

Ayodele Fayose had said, “Let me say it unequivocally, i will never be a member of the APC. And may i say to you, the agenda that i joined with G-5 to pursue is to have a Southern President.”

The former Ekiti Governor, who spoke at a press conference in Abuja, indirectly revealed that he, former Governors Nyesom Wike and Samuel Ortom, as well as Governor Seyi Makinde and others worked against Atiku Abubakar during the 2023 Presidential election. He revealed this after he maintained that he only joined the G-5 to ensure that the South produced President.

Fayose also insisted that he would never join the ruling party. According to him, he would continue to be a member of the main opposition party untill he retires from partisan politics. He also revealed that his intention to support Tinubu was not motivated by political appointment; but by the need to balance power sharing.

The former Ekiti Governor went further to say that he would not hesitate to speak against Tinubu’s administration, if the former Lagos governor does not align with his words.
