IGP Usman Baba Reveals Those Planning To Stop 2023 Election (Details)

The insecurity across the country, particularly in the Southeast has become a great threat to the forthcoming general election in some parts of Nigeria. The destruction and killing have resulted in the loss of many valuable electoral materials while many offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission have been destroyed.

Speaking on the situation, the Nigerian Police Force while speaking through the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, on Friday revealed the identity of groups who are determined to subvert the 2023 election.

The IGP reportedly listed the agitators in the Southeast and Southwest, including some individual politicians as people planning to prevent the conduct of the general election.

According to the report, IGP Baba who was represented by Dandaura Mustapha, deputy inspector- general made this known on Friday when he appeared before the house of representatives ad hoc committee investigating attacks on the facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said the security operatives discovered that the secessionists; the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN) are bent on stopping the people of the Southeast from voting in the coming general election.

He said, ” What we discovered is that— we all know in this country; it is a well- known fact that in the south- east geo- political zone, we have issues of secessionists, the IPOB and ESN— these groups are bent on stopping elections from taking place in the south- east. “
