Ayodele Fayose, the former Governor of Ekiti state, has made it clear that he will take action against President Bola Tinubu if he fails to fulfill his campaign promises to the Nigerian people.

During a press conference after a courtesy visit to the President at the State House in Abuja, Fayose emphasized his consistency in judging character. While he currently supports the President, he stated that he would not hesitate to criticize him if he fails to deliver on his promises.

Fayose stated, “When President Buhari was about to come into power, I openly expressed my belief that he would not perform well. I was not hiding; I was transparent about it. Similarly, I want to make it clear that if Asiwaju [Tinubu] reneges on his promises, I will be the first to call him out. I am not afraid and I do not shy away from challenges.”

However, Fayose acknowledged that he had observed a positive intention for Nigeria in President Tinubu’s actions. He stressed the importance of optimism and hope, while also acknowledging that if the President detes from his responsibilities, they will collectively remind him of his duties as the President and Commander-in-Chief.

When asked if his visit was connected to a potential appointment, Fayose clarified that he was not seeking a position in the government. He believed that one did not need to be in power to contribute to the administration’s achievements.

While Fayose confirmed that he, along with other opposition party leaders such as Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and former Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, was working with Tinubu, he made it clear that he would remain a member of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and would not join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayose reiterated his commitment to the PDP and urged politicians to focus on upcoming elections. He also commented on President Tinubu’s performance, stating that the initial steps taken by the administration provided an indication of its direction. Fayose emphasized the need for unity and support from all Nigerians to move the country forward.

In conclusion, Fayose firmly stated his allegiance to the PDP and reiterated that he would never join the APC. He emphasized that Nigeria’s interests surpass any political party and expressed his dedication to making a difference without holding a specific appointment. Fayose affirmed his support for President Tinubu’s vision and stated that he has consistently spoken highly of him, even during his tenure as Governor of Ekiti state.
