In a recent interview, Rooney claimed there’s a striker better suited for Manchester United’s future — and it’s not the Nigerian goal machine Osimhen.
“Osimhen is talented, no doubt,” Rooney said. “But if I were Amorim, I’d go for someone who fits the Premier League style better and can grow with the team.”
Rooney reportedly named Benjamin Šeško, the rising Slovenian star at RB Leipzig, as the striker United should be prioritizing. Šeško has caught the attention of Europe’s elite with his combination of strength, speed, and clinical finishing — all at just 20 years of age.
The former England captain believes Šeško’s youth, adaptability, and potential resale value make him a smarter long-term investment than Osimhen, whose release clause and wage demands may be too steep.
With Rúben Amorim rumored to be in line for the United job this summer, Rooney’s suggestion could carry weight at board level — especially if the club opts for a more financially strategic rebuild under INEOS.
