Parts of a female hostel located along Imgbi Road on the campus of the State Medical University were gutted by a fire in the early hours of the morning.

Verified Gist reports that the fire, believed to have started around 6:40 am, was ignited by an electrical spark when a student was ironing her clothes.

Prompt action was reportedly taken as personnel from both the Federal and Bayelsa State Fire Services swiftly arrived at the scene to tackle the emergency. Their swift response prevented the fire from engulfing other rooms in the block.

Prof. Ebitimitula Etebu, the Vice Chancellor of the State Medical University, and Phillip Diete-Spiff, the Chief Security Officer, expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the fire service officials for their efficient and timely intervention.

There were no casualties or physical injuries reported among the students. However, the fire destroyed personal belongings belonging to the occupants of the affected rooms.
