The president said poor Nigerians will receive N25,000 per month for three months.
“I hereby flag off the Renewed Hope conditional cash transfer programme for households targeted at uplifting poor and vulnerable Nigerians as an immediate intervention to cushion the effects of fuel subsidy removal and other economic shocks,” Tinubu told guests and international partners who converged on the Press Gallery of the State House, Abuja.
Yesterday, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, disclosed the restarting of the programme.
Speaking during the ministry’s retreat in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom state on Wednesday, Edun said the project which was initially created for 3 million Nigerian people, has been extended to 12 million citizens.
Edun added: “The presidential panel on the social investment programmes, have prepared to go to Mr. President with an internal recommendation to restart the direct payments to the poorest and the most vulnerable. Everything is being done to ease the pain.
“We know that there’s been about 3 million beneficiaries now, but given the way the rates have gone, there are probably another 12 million people, households that can benefit from that payment.”
