Controversial Nigerian Journalist and Arise news reporter, Oseni Rufai, has recently reacted to the report of the European Union Election Monitoring Group with respect to the claims of flaws that emanated in the conduct of the 2023 elections.
Recall that The European Union Election Monitoring Group stated in a report that the 2023 election was indeed full of irregularities and had failed to meet the minimum standard of credibility for the conduct of an electoral process.
Reacting to this report, the Arise Reporter faulted the Independence National Electoral Commission, or INEC, for shattering the hope of Nigerians through the conduct of the 2023 election, stating that it was an election that promised so much but delivered so little.
Speaking further, he revealed that the INEC National Commissioner, Festus Okoye, proved the election was flawed and lacked credibility after he failed to explain what kind of technical glitches occurred during the process of the election when he was asked during a recent interview with Arise .
According to him, “a lot of Nigerians want to forget the trauma of the last election, an election that promised so much but delivered so little. In the same election that caused ethnic division in Lagos, an election where town criers came out to tell people not to vote, there was rancor everywhere. Is this the same election that someone is coming out to defend?
An Election where INEC is yet to tell us what kind of technical glitch happened because I know if a glitch happened, there is going to be a technical analytical report on the nature of the glitch, and the first thing INEC should have done is bring out that report, but till today I’ve not seen anything of such. Did you see Mr. Festus Okoye when our colleague asked him to tell us what kind of technical glitch occurred in the election that he couldn’t answer and said the case is in court?”
Meanwhile, he commended the EU for their investigation into the conduct of the election and analysis of the outcome of the polls.
