A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Osita Okechukwu, has claimed that the European Union was able to prove to the world that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had improved from the election it conducted in 2019 and the one that was conducted in 2023.

Speaking further, Mr Okechukwu made it known that the 84 page EU report on the last election didn’t say anything different from what others said, noting that the EU reports were only talking about the laws and the statements.

Mr Okechukwu made this disclosure when he was interviewed on Arise Television, as he was reacting to the EU Election Observers report.

He said: “EU has a specific mandate and in the report, they(EU) were able to let the world know that the INEC had improved from 2019 to the last election of 2023, that result said so. To my own understanding, in the 84 page document, EU did not say anything different from what others said.”

Furthermore, he noted that if Nigerians look at the 2007 presidential election, the former INEC Chairman, Prof Iwu didn’t even allow the completion of collation of results and he walked away, noting that this is the first time in the history of Nigeria that some seating Governors lost senatorial election in Nigeria.

It should be recalled that the European Union Election Observers Mission, recently released their final report on the conduct of the just concluded presidential election and on the said report, the claim that the election was characterised by lack of transparency, voter intimidation, among other irregularities.
