The Director-General of Voice of Nigeria and Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Osita Okechukwu, has recently reacted to the European Union Election Monitoring Group report as regards claims of flaws and irregularities that manifested in the conduct of the 2023 electoral process.
Recall that the European Union Election Monitoring Group stated in a report that the 2023 election was indeed full of irregularities and had failed to meet the minimum standard of average election credibility.
The APC Chieftain, Osita, while reacting to this development, argued the notion as put forward by the EU and stated that the Union has refused to understand the fact that it was impossible for their opposition parties, the PDP, Labour Party, and the NNPP, who seemed to be the APC’s major opposition, to have won the presidential election due to the way they were divided during the course of the election.
According to the Chieftain, who revealed this while speaking during an interview with the Arise , “What the EU has refused to understand, and which the State House Department is trying to clear them on, is that, the way the APC opposition managed themselves, there is no way they could have won the election because a divided house cannot stand.
There wouldn’t have been the Kwakwansiya group that went and got the highest vote per state in Kano, and there wouldn’t have been the ‘Obidients’ if Alhaji Atiku Abubakar had managed the rotation convention with his leadership in the PDP. So, I think that is what the state department is saying: that EU only looked at the conduct of the election without taking close record of both inter- and intra-party conflicts that occurred in the process of preparing for the election.”
