James Brown, Bobrisky, Jay Boogie, and other Nigerian cross-dressers celebrate after a bill to outlaw cross-dressing was defeated.
According to online reports, a bill attempting to outlaw cross-dressing in Nigeria has been temporarily stalled.
Idris Wase, the Deputy Speaker, demanded that the bill’s sponsor, Muda Lawal, withdraw the bill because his justification was insufficient.
Remember that the bill was introduced in April 2022 and seeks to amend the 2013 same-sex marriage (prohibition) statute to include cross-dressing as an offence.
Crossdressers risk receiving a five hundred thousand naira fine or six months in jail under a proposed law.
It should be noted that this is not a rejection of the bill; if the sponsor makes a compelling case, it may be reconsidered.
