The former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that President Bola Tinubu plans to compensate Nyesom Wike, the outgoing governor of Rivers State, with a ministerial appointment for his alleged role in rigging the presidential election in the state.
According to reports, representatives from the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo met with Governor Wike to discuss his alleged involvement in widespread rigging against the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the February 25 election. During the meeting, the delegation expressed dissatisfaction with Wike’s actions, citing allegations of election rigging and violence against Obi and his supporters in the state.
In response, Wike reportedly stated that he owed no one an apology for the alleged rigging of the state’s presidential and legislative elections.
Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communication released a statement claiming that the election results from states like Rivers demonstrated the unreliability of the election. He also criticized Tinubu’s plan to offer Wike a ministerial appointment despite the allegations against him and a petition that reportedly gathered nearly 300,000 signatures
