Following the inability of the Peoples Democratic Party to secure the positions of the Majority Leader, Deputy Majority Leader in the Abia, Chief Whip, and Deputy Chief Whip of the Abia State House of Assembly, 11 PDP members have threatened to announce the principal officers by themselves instead of allowing the speaker to do so.
According to member representing Ukwa East constituency, Goddy Adiele, members of the APC and the YPP in the Abia State House of Assembly will have to defect from their parties and join the Labour Party before the Labour Party can become the majority party in the House of Assembly.
Remember that the Labour Party has 10 seats in the Abia State House of Assembly, while PDP has 11 members out of the 24 members that makes up the Abia State House of Assembly. The YPP occupies two seats, while the APC has one seat. Ordinarily, the PDP should produce the principal officers of the House (majority and deputy majority leaders, chief whip, and deputy chief whip), however, Labour Party has hijacked all the positions.
What this means is that the PDP will now become the minority party despite having greater number of members in the Abia State House of Assembly. The Labour Party has support from the APC and YPP, however, Goddy Adiele is of the opinion that the support of APC and YPP to the Labour Party cannot make the Labour Party the majority party until members of the APC and YPP officially decamps and joins the Labour Party.
