Loyalists and fans of former Governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode, have hailed the incumbent governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, for his role in reuniting their principal with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Daily Trust reports that Ambode, Sanwo-Olu and another former governor and immediate past Works Minister, Babatunde Raji Fashola were some of the dignitaries who hosted Tinubu to a reception recently in Lagos.

It was a memorable event which reunited the quartet of Tinubu, Fashola, Ambode and Sanwo-Olu saddled at different times with the responsibility of governing the state with Sanwo-Olu currently in the saddle.

Ambode had a falling out with the party’s leadership after they refused to give him the nomination for a second term; this opened the door for Sanwo-Olu to become the party’s flag bearer in 2018 and afterwards the governor.

Ambode had split from the APC leadership in the wake of the 2019 election campaign and had stopped taking part in all of the party’s local activities.

Instead, during the congresses, his supporters held parallel congresses to elect party executives at the ward, municipal, and state levels.    The reunion efforts became public when Sanwo-Olu unexpectedly paid Ambode a visit during a company celebration of his 60th birthday. Ambode then attended the reception honouring the former governor and now president.

According to information obtained by Daily trust, Ambode might be given consideration for a ministerial position in the present Tinubu administration.

Supporters of Ambode in the state claimed that Sanwo-Olu should receive credit for bringing Ambode back into the fold.

Daily trust report that, Prince Adeleke Akoja, one of Ambode Fans’ Club Worldwide’s followers and coordinator, went to the riverfront to pray for Sanwo-Olu and Tinubu. He added that the entire Lagosian population appreciated the efforts of Sanwo-Olu to reintegrate Ambode.

He also urged the party’s leadership and state-level party organs and structures to welcome Ambode back by forgetting any wrongs they believed he had done.
