The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has issued a critical response to a video posted by UTME candidate Mmesoma Ejikeme, who defended herself against accusations of presenting forged results. While Ejikeme claims that she obtained a score of 362 from the JAMB results portal, JAMB disputes this, asserting that her actual score is 249. According to JAMB, the result she is parading was created using an outdated template that has not been in use for two years.
In the viral video, the 19-year-old explains how she acquired the result, expressing her distress over stories of forged results. However, JAMB spokesman Fabian Benjamin, appearing on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, questioned Ejikeme’s involvement in the alleged forgery. Benjamin, referring to her demeanor in the video, suggested that she was being coached on what to say by someone else. He emphasized that there were individuals behind the defense and that they were the ones being sought after.
The involvement of the Department of State Services (DSS) in the matter has sparked various reactions, with some urging caution in how the post-secondary examination body handles the case. When asked about the origin of the results, JAMB stated that they came from “the street.” Benjamin explained that Ejikeme obtained the result unofficially and tampered with it, emphasizing that it would not be recognized by any institution she applied to.
Despite the allegations, JAMB maintains that their system has not been compromised and is functioning properly. Benjamin expressed JAMB’s concern for the public, aiming to prevent deception and fraud. He also mentioned that there have been instances of individuals creating fake results as a form of mockery. To address the issue, Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has set up an inquiry committee, and JAMB intends to participate in the process. Benjamin reached out to the Commissioner of Education, requesting an invitation to present the facts. JAMB also urged Airtel to join the proceedings as they possess communication records between the candidate and JAMB.
